About VetVention

VetVention is being built to help promising veteran-created inventions move from idea toward protected, commercially meaningful innovation.

Why VetVention Exists

Military service places people in environments where problems are immediate, constraints are real, and solutions have to work. Veterans carry that practical problem-solving experience into civilian life, often with ideas for better equipment, processes, software, systems, medical technologies, tools, consumer products, and entirely new approaches.

But having an invention and knowing how to advance it are very different things.

Independent inventors can face difficult questions early: Is the invention meaningfully different? Is patent protection appropriate? What should be developed before filing? How much should be invested? Who can be trusted to help? And if intellectual property is secured, what happens next?

VetVention is being created to help selected veteran inventors confront those questions with structure, professional guidance, and a realistic development path.

Our Mission

To protect and advance promising veteran innovation by connecting selected veteran inventors with intellectual property resources, professional expertise, targeted support, and commercialization opportunities.

Our focus is not the number of patent applications filed. Our focus is whether the resources devoted to an invention help create a stronger, more valuable, and more actionable opportunity for the veteran behind it.

More Than a Patent Program

A patent can be an important business asset, but a patent application by itself does not create a market, build a prototype, identify a licensee, attract investment, manufacture a product, or create a company.

VetVention is therefore being designed around the broader innovation journey. Intellectual property protection remains central, but it sits inside a larger framework of invention evaluation, technical development, strategic decision-making, and commercialization.

Our Principles

Selectivity

Resources should be directed toward inventions and inventors where focused support can make a meaningful difference. VetVention intends to use a structured intake and evaluation process rather than an open-ended promise of assistance.

Professional Quality

Veteran inventors deserve serious work. VetVention is developing standards for the attorneys, agents, technical experts, mentors, and other professionals who participate in its programs.

Transparency

The nonprofit organization, participating law firms, sponsors, mentors, and other service providers should have clearly defined roles. VetVention is being designed to avoid undisclosed financial relationships or an exclusive funnel to any one professional provider.

Sustainability

Patent work is resource-intensive. VetVention’s model is being built around a combination of external funding, structured professional participation, targeted subsidies, and selective pro bono support rather than depending on unlimited donated legal time.

Outcomes

Success should ultimately be measured by progress: better inventions, stronger intellectual property positions, viable licensing opportunities, new businesses, commercial partnerships, and technologies that reach the market.

Our Founding Stage

VetVention IP Creations has been established in California, and a five-member founding team is actively finalizing the organization’s nonprofit structure and governance.

At the same time, the founders are refining the initial invention intake form and scoring rubric, developing the professional-participation model, planning the first pilot program, and creating the organizational infrastructure needed to support veteran inventors responsibly.

VetVention is not presently representing itself as having received federal recognition as a tax-exempt organization under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3). Additional organizational and program information will be published as those steps are completed.

Where We Are Going

Our long-term vision is a respected national platform where promising veteran innovators can be identified, evaluated, connected with excellent professional resources, and supported through the difficult stages between invention and commercial opportunity.

We also envision VetVention as a meeting point for the broader ecosystem surrounding veteran innovation: intellectual property professionals, engineers, entrepreneurs, corporations, foundations, government programs, investors, manufacturers, licensing professionals, and veteran-focused organizations.

Veterans have spent their careers solving problems under demanding conditions. VetVention is being built to help some of those solutions become protected inventions and real-world opportunities.
